Administrative experience

  • 5 years as Project Coordinator to DBT BUILDER Programme in School of Biosciences: Manpower management of 3 Assistant Professors, 1 Technical Assistant and 9 Research Scholars who were appointed in this programme. I was in charge of the monitoring research works, introducing new programme purchase of equipments, maintenance of cash books, preparing reports, preparing audit reports. The programme also helped in establishing a good instrumentation facility, Animal cell culture facility and Animal house for the use of all research scholars in the University
  • 1 year as member and 6 months as the Joint Director of NAAC Cell of Mahatma Gandhi University it was possible for me to help Prepare the AQAR as well as the Self study Report to be submitted to NAAC for the accreditation process. In addition I was also involved in verifying API scores of faculty members of the University Department who had applied for promotions as the performance based appraisal system introduced by the UGC
  • 3 years as Course Coordinator for students of Master Programme in Biochemistry and 1 year as the Course coordinator for M.Phil programme in Biosciences in School of Biosciences. This involved maintain student’s performance records, coordinating conduct of Examinations (preparing question papers, evaluation of answer sheets, preparing marksheets, meeting with parents) and declaration of results.
  • Presently I am also functioning as the Honorary Director of the Inter University Center for Organic Farming and Sustainable Agriculture (IUCOFSA) and am involved in setting up a live laboratory for organic farming (reclamation of a paddy field which has not been cultivated for more than six years), initiating an Organic farming literacy programme in the District of Kottayam, Kerala, Setting up a Rain shelter for training on small scale organic farming of Vegetables

Teaching: The work involves conduct of Lectures, practical sessions, and supervision of project work of the students. My main area of teaching interest includes Basic Biochemistry, Protein Chemistry and Enzymology.

Research areas: The area of my research interest include

  • Isolation and characterization of Inhibitors for Lipoxygenase / Cycloxygenase pathway which play an important role in process of inflammatory response.
  • Inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines in control of inflammatory process
  • Studies on use of three dimensional model for tumor growth in vitro to analyze the effect of anti tumor and anti inflammatory bioactive molecules on tumor growth and tumor angiogenesis
  • Identification of bioactive molecules for controlling obesity
